Swami Ramakrishnananda has summarized the entire wisdom of yoga, in all its aspects, into six fundamental points:

1. Exercise (asanas) - The practice of different physical postures.

2. Energizing  (pranayama) - Energizing that is produced as a result of practicing the different yogic techniques.

3. Relaxation (shavasana) - Different practices that lead to relieving tension and to creating the appropriate situation for deep relaxation and rest on the physical, mental and spiritual levels.

4. Proper nutrition (prasadam) - To eat only vegetarian food that was first offered to the Divine, and to abstain from eating meat, eggs and fish, as well as to abstain from taking all kinds of intoxicants, including coffee, tea and cigarettes.

5. Universal vision (Vedanta) - To try to understand that behind the world of names and forms is one nature, one reality. For that, it is important to study the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, which has a very important place in Hinduism.

6. Meditation - (dhyana) - Meditation is when the observer himself becomes the observed.
