It is a quiet transformation of one's mind when it sails through the mystic description of "Yoga, Union with Reality" by Swami Ramakrishnananda. Being a student of Sanskrit throughout my life I thought of Yoga in our traditional term of "Chittavridhinirodha" for which the description of Yama, Niyama etc was necessary to understand and for simple understanding of yogic postures which are called Asanas were supposed to be mastered.
But the deep understanding of yogic philosophy of various types of yoga came as an eye opener for me when I went on discovering the Eleven Types of Yoga. They are
1. Purna Yoga
2. Hatha Yoga
3. Karma Yoga
4. Bhakti Yoga
5. Jnana Yoga
6. Tantra Yoga
7. Kundalini Yoga
8. Mantra Yoga
9. Kriya Yoga
10. Nada Yoga
11. Raja Yoga
I should confess that individually all these terms were known to me but they are so deep to be classified as Yoga, was information like a pleasing cool breeze for me.
It made me curious, restless and forced me too, to go through the book sometimes and somewhere several times and enchanted my soul, energized my feelings and made me proud of being Hindu whose ancestors were so great that every other book scripted on their wisdom is somewhat different from the other but still holds the authenticity of philosophical insight of the Masters of the Subject.
The present book by Swami Ramakrishnananda, is a great, clear and comprehensive work authored by an intrinsically enlightened soul and needs all the accolades with the sense of Obeisance. It is very beautifully crafted, easily delivered and simply understood set of discourses. One hopes that some more exhaustive work would be brought out in future to discuss all types of Yoga in this same simple and easy format.
